We strongly recommend that you stay overnight in Thórsmörk (the finish line) because of the spectacular surroundings and unforgettable nature. If you stay you will need a sleeping bag and some warm clothes and you can buy some food in the area or you can bring your own. A guided excursion in Thórsmörk might be available on Sunday if requested (further information later) and the bus back to town departs at 16:00 on Sunday July 15th. Further information at re.is.

Baggage

Please read this carefully

Our race officials can bring a small bag for you to the midpoint of the race (Bláfjallkvísl). Your bag must be delivered to our office before 17:00 on Friday July 13th. The luggage will then be transported to the south bank of the river Bláfjallakvísl (NOT a drink station), close to the mid-point of the race, just beyond Álftavatn.

Soon after Álftavatn everyone will have to cross a river so you may want to change and/or leave some clothes behind. After this the bag will be transported to the race office in Reykjavík and you must collect it on Saturday evening or Sunday morning from there. The drop bags must be securely closed and labelled and make sure not to put your passport or money in the bag. We kindly ask you to have the bag as small as possible and waterproof. No supermarket plastic bags are allowed. The size limit of the mid point bag is circa 50x30 cm.

Baggage runners need immediately after the race in Thórsmörk should be taken to Landmannalaugar on Saturday (or Friday if you are spending the night there) and handed over to a race official when you get off the bus before the race.  Runners must have dry clothes for after the race.
All baggage must be labelled with the runner’s name. Race officials will also put a race number on it. Because the baggage will be transported far up into the mountains and rivers will be crossed anything can happen (for example, bags may get wet), so make sure it is well packed. Do not put your passport or money, or anything else of value, in your baggage.

  • Everyone must be equipped with the right clothes depending on the weather; A warm hat, windproof jacket and gloves are important. Water belts and energy gels are recommended at all times. See further here.
  • Participants must take care of their own baggage, take it from the bus in Landmannalaugar and put it in the bus to Thorsmörk.
  • Please do not forget to sign in with the race officials.
  • Note that there are toilets in Landmannalaugar but no other lodging.
  • At the start point, line runners will be started in groups with 5 minute apart. Each group will be color-coded by race number.
  • Showers are available at Thórsmörk for the runners after the race.  There is a small outdoor pool so don't forget your bathing suit.
  • Participants and guests can buy a cubon for a barbeque meal after the race. The barbecue will be served from approx 14:00.
  • After the prize ceremony at Thórsmörk the buses will depart for Reykjavík.
